Grass grows once the temperature gets to 7 degrees, so yes, start sowing if Yorkshire has got there, obviously if it's only just 7 it will grow slowly.
I put down some grass seed about 3 weeks ago and it's already at least 1cm high!

It's a bit of a lottery this time of year, seed may germinate, seed may lie there until temp is right or it may rot or be eaten by birds!
If you want it green in a months time, lay turf!
Anyway, I'm with Flum on this one, if you can't eat it, why grow it? I always look upon a lawn as a green desert!

How about a mini wildflower meadow???
If you've not got the seeds already, then it's worth considering as there will be no maintanence ( I think you cut it once or twice a year if I recall).
