  • Peony protection?

Last year, our peony (I think that's what they are) grew quite well, and then flopped over. So I bought some "supports", but they seemed to exacerbate the problem. As you can see from this photo the supports are already insitu

but I was debating using them this year. Also, I wondered if they needed fleecing as the shoots will probably be quite tender at this stage, and the weather doesn't look like it's improving any time soon. The supports would make a nice fleece support.

I'm also, not sure what these are:

It's kinda tricky looking up "blue flowers" on google...

You could maybe do with one of those supports that's a circle divided into squares - know what I mean? This gives lots of support because the shoots grow up though the squares and are supported closely on all sides. I tend to let mine flop. Au naturelle so to speak! (The peony, that is! ).

The blue thing is Grape Hyacinth - spawn of the Devil! I've been trying to eradicate a bad dose of them from my garden for 8 years. They seed, they grow from bulb offsets, they get on me pip!

      Thanks Ma.

Because the peonies (correct pl.?) are in a pot, once they flop, they look terrible, hence we supported them last year. Might keep an eye out for the square/round support though.

So the Hyacinth spreads? This is kinda cool for where they are, as they are planted in a kind of "trough" made of sleepers at the back end of the decked area.

Nah, I'll just put a red sock in the wash with my white one.
