  • Lawn tonic

    Hi

My grass has suffered badly with all the rain this year. It needs a tonic, in past years I've bought the usual weed and feed from the garden centre. Is their any more natual product I could use?

    Thanks

Before the "why do you have lawn in the first place" brigade get here ...

I'm guessing you mean that the lawn is water logged. If this is the case, make sure you give it a good airing. Use a garden fork and push it into the ground, then give it a wiggle (you'll see the grass around "moving"). Do this on the whole lawn, then buy a couple of bags of sharp sand (fairly cheap) and spread it over the whole lawn.

Give it a good scarifying (using a lawn rake to get all the moss/weeds stuff up) and then just re-seed where needed.

Well, that's what I'd do anyway.

Why do you have a lawn in the first place?

The normal feed in the spring is a high nitro boost like sulphate of ammonia or lawn sand which is a mixture of sulphate of ammonia, ferrous sulphate and sand as a spreader.(The iron knocks out daisies really well and is a cheap mosslkiller)
If you would like to use an organic alternative I think Organic chicken manure mini pellets would fit the bill, but after the first rains your lawn will smell like a poultry run!
