  • Daffs not opening

Has any one had problems with daff buds forming but not opening up? Bought a variety called OBDAM 2 seasons ago.Grew them in a large pot and last spring they didn't open so thought maybe I hadn't watered them or fed them enough but the same thing happened this year. They look very healthy and all the other bulbs I bought at the same time are doing well. Well enough to help me win at the local spring show!!!!! I have nevered had this happen before so any suggestions please Ginny

I think it may be a question of depth. They should be 3 times the depth of the bulb.

I have about 10-12 pots of bulbs all bought at the same time and this variety is the only one that is having this problem so I don't think it is the depth this time Thanks Ginny

Dig them up put them in a different position ie more or less light and different soil or compost and see if that helps. I they are planted too deep they do go blind but in a tub that is hardly likely.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I finally got an answer to my problem apparently it is called "bud blast" in the trade and is caused by dryness at the roots just as the flowers are forming in the bud. Iy can occur in the flower fields if there is dry spell and double flowered daffs, possible because they have lots more petals suffer from it more than singles. Many thanks to Ron Scamp of Cornwall who took the time to answer my email and if this is his service to a non customer I will be ordering from him in future!!!!!!!!
