Frangipani - is it suitable for UK gardens?

On holiday in Sri Lanka last year, I saw 'Temple Flowers' (which I think are Frangipani) everywhere. They smell gorgeous. Is it worth trying to grow over here or is it too tender? I'd appreciate your advice.

I used to have some as houseplants, but they can't stand the cold.

Thanks for the reply. It's a shame that space is a bit tight indoors at the moment - too many seedlings on the windowsills!
