I'm not a gardener as such, my new interest is stick insects which eat a variety of leaves, the two new species have taken on will only eat Ivy or Bramble (bramble being something that about 90% of stick insects will eat, so is a good choice for most).
At the moment I have to scour the area for such things like Bramble and Privet, whereas I have an abundance of Ivy growing close by.
I have a small 8' x 8' front garden where I am willing to grow some privet, and a wall, which is covered with Ivy at the moment, where I would like to start some bramble for year round foliage.
I would be exceedingly grateful (I sound like a certain cake maker here) if anyone could provide the following information.
What is the best way to get Privet and Bramble to grow from a cuttings, I know ivy will grow without much help?
What soil preparation would I need to plant the cuttings in?
What variety of Bramble (Blackberry and Raspberry can be used for feeding)would be best to use for year round foliage (leaves)?
I will be having a look in my area (Barnsley) to see if there are any allotments free to rent so I can possibly try other plants.
