  • Antirhinnum/snapdragons germination problem

Hi guys, hope there's an expert out there for this. I really wanted to grow some snapdragons this year. I know they are slow, but after 6 weeks I've got nothing so I'm sowing again. The variety is 'Night and Day'

Are there any tricks I should know about germinating these? They're small seeds so I assume they go on the surface of the compost - any other advice?

    Thanks

Not really kvp. They can be a bit of a sod to germinate. You are right insofar as you only need to scatter the seed on the surface of the compost, keep warm, but not too hot, and not allowed to dry out. ie, kept moist, but not too wet.

Good luck with your next sowing.

i bought a snapdragon last year and for some reason it stayed in the soil all winter -its still alive (and i thought they were annuals) but its like a bonsai - tiny tiny leaves and tiny tiny buds - what has happened?

As long as they don't have frost they are more or less perennial. I quite often have a few from year to next. I cut tham down to just above ground level in spring and they grow up OK. - Tomato is actually perennial in the right conditions!!
