Hollyhocks

I planted two in the spring and have lots and lots of huge leaves. The plants are about a foot and a half tall, but no sign of any flower action at all. I've never grown them before and don't know really what to expect with them.

Any advice? Thanks in advance! x

They are biennial. Plant them in year one, they flower the following year. Same as foxgloves.

Darn it. Didn't know that. We're planning on moving by next year, if the right thing happens along (with lovely big garden pleeeaase!) Oh well. Be nice for whoever buys this house!

I was under the impression that hollyhocks are perennial.

They are a short-lived perennial, best grown as a biennial (mine always succumb to rust anyway)

I have some hollyhocks that have been in the place for years. They are pale pink, sorry don't know any more

They were the first thing I ever grew as a child... they took over my mum's front garden and she still reminds me about that now.
