I've grown some evening primrose from seed (that a kindly grape sent me). They are growing quoite well, would say the actual plants are about the size of a dinner plate, but no flowers yet. Are they one of those plants that will flower the second year? and I have them in a pot about 8" in diameter, do you think this is big enough? i've no idea how big they will eventually get.

hi i grew some from seeds last year, the packet said would flower the next,BUT,i did have a few the first year,i lost some,1 is in a built up walled boarder, the other in a large garden tub, with another plant, the one in the walled area is doing great,i wonder if it is because it's very deep,it seems to be a sprawley type of plant, very nice to look at,well i think so.Last edited by lottie dolly; 28-07-2008, 09:50 AM.sigpicAnother nutter ,wife, mother, nan and nanan, love my growing places, seed collection and sharing, also one of these

One of the evening primroses is biennial and will flower next year. One is a perennial. Our kindly grape Hazel, who sent me some too, wasn't sure which they were (they had come from her brother's garden) so it's a voyage of discovery!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

No, only just planted them out into the garden. They were growing on in modules while I cleared a space. They are good strong plants though. I've grown both types before but can't remember which looked like what at this stage! I think these might be the tall biennial one which will lurk as a rosette of leaves this year then shoot up next year. (However, I've been wrong before!)Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

I've only just sown some of these (maybe a bit late) in the greenhouse mainly for the Bearded Dragon for food over winter as I bought them in a tortoise pack and was told that the Beardie could eat the leafs as well.
I think I may hold some of the seedlings back though and see how they turn out too.
Are there any uses in the home and kitchen by any chance or is it just a pretty plant to look at?
