  • primula belarina Cream wanted

Well, this is the longest of long shots.

I was idly googling and ebaying, as you do when your Other Half is being mean to you

and I stumbled across this little beauty: primula belarina cream. £4.50 for a single plant on eBay !!!

I can't find it anywhere else. I've googled, but most are out of stock.

It doesn't seem to be available as seed, only plants.

anyone out there got one? Would you recommend it?

Well I got some, from Mr Fothergills. I ordered 10 for about £1.60 each plant (edit: they arrived within 8 days, lovely fat healthy plants).
This is why I can't find seed - obvious if I'd thought about it. Since doubles develop petals in the place of reproductive organs, the great majority (of double-flowered primula) are sterile. However, as new double varieties are always being produced, not all of them can be sterile and some will produce some pollen, even if it is in very small quantities.

To make the most of the P&P costs, I also ordered some Bishops Children dahlia seed and some Hosta seed. Seed addict.

What's the website Two_Sheds? Madmax and I can struggle through a bit of German and see if we can help.

Hmm, had a quick look at their primula selection and can't see the one you are after. Mind you I have a splitting headache at the moment so can't really see straight! Madmax won't be home till around 8.30 tonight so I don't suppose he will want to help me read about german plant sales then. We will have a better look tomorrow morning (he has a day off) and report back. In the meantime there may be more German reading grapes online who can help you.

Tam, you're brilliant. I never knew that: I downloaded it in about 2 seconds.

                  and got this:
"New collection of double-blooming Primula introduced by the Green Gallery in spring 2008. Belarina® and are produced under license. Primula Belarina® can be marketed as a potted plant and perennial. Planted in the garden, it can survive a normal English winter, and will light up the garden with its beautiful colors of spring. Belarina ® comes from the Green Gallery in a 10.5 cm pot with 12 paragraphs in each box and label in each pot. A new and exciting concept from the Green Gallery. "

So, the plant is trademarked, and it is new.

I'm going to have so much fun with that translation button

For trademark read plant breeders rights which means you can't propagate it for re-sale or giving away without you buy the proper labels and pay the PBR but yo can propagate it for yourself.

I bet they will have a list of UK outlets on the website somewhere most do but £4-50 a pot sounds a bit steep so I wouldn't bother with them find a cheaper source

Yes Two Sheds, I have found the Google translations very useful, as you don't need a translator for the translations (from any language) as you do with some other online translating facilities.
