I have a jade plant that I've had years. When I recieved it from a friend it was just about 2 inches long. Its probably 3 years old now and it has only grown to about twice that. I've fertilized it periodically, the pot its in has good drainage, gets plenty of sunshine. I just dont know why it wont grow any faster. My mom has one that she's had for at least 20 years (if not more). ITS HUGE!!!!!!!!!!! The one thing that I am aware of thats part of the problem is that I live in the southern part of the country where the humidity is alot higher than where my mom lives. I wouldnt think it would have that big of an impact on it though. All the rest of our plants grow great. I am being patient with it but sure would be nice if it would just grow.
When you say Jade plant, I presume you mean what we sometimes call a Money Tree. Large fat round leaves? If so then it grows to the size of the pot. If you keep re-potting when the roots fill the original pot it will grow faster. What size pot is it in at the moment?
Could you be looking after it tooo well? From my memory(it's been a while since I've had one)they don't appreciate being over watered~like cacti you can probably get away with watering them just every 4 or 5 weeks! In the winter maybe even less! They like a fairly sandy soil & potsize needs to be almost restrictive. If it gets potbound just repot in one only slightly larger.
Good Luck!
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.
Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have.xx
as far as the pot size goes i have always had it in a pretty big pot so that i wouldnt have to disturb very often repotting it. and i only water it every 2-3 weeks (when soil seems pretty dry). i have went online and researched it a little. the only thing i havent done is add some sand to the soil. i think im gonna do that today. and yes, it is sometimes referred to as a money tree. thank you for all the advice and tips. not giving up on it. have several other plants i need to re-pot today. its getting to be the time of year that i have to find a place to bring my outside plants inside. kinda hard to do living in a tiny townhouse. thanx again
