  • Colchicum (Naked lady)

My neighbour gave me a clump of the above in early summer. These have now produced beautiful pink flowers.

The bulbs are sitting proud of the surface and there are a large number of them.

I would like to split them when the flowers have died away. Is this feasible and can anyone give me some advice as to how to replant them e.g. depth, distance apart etc.

    Thanks

    BBC - Gardening - Plants - Colchicum

    From the above site -
    Planting corms
Plant corms in groups of three, about 10cm to 15cm (4in to 6in) deep in a well-drained soil that is liberally enriched with compost

Sounds like they need to be quite a bit deeper...

This site is worth looking at just for the great picture. It says plant in late summer, so I'd imagine that's when you'd divide too. As the leaves don't appear till spring I would think you could still divide now.

I have some of these I got from Beth Chatto's gardens, lovely plants, always take me by surprise when they flower!
