tree runners

i have this tree in my garden its an acacia and it is sending out runners all over the place it seems each week there is a new shoot appearing any where it bl***y wants and it grows at some rate and before i know it another has appeared ...the biggest problem is they come up where i dont want them so my question is the ones i dont want can i put weed killer on or will it transfer to my main tree ( which is huge and i love and dont want to loose)

weedkiller will transfer to the main tree, so you just have to keep pulling the damn things off. I'm pretty sure that digging down a bit at the borrom of the sucker and pulling it off where it joins the main tree is the best option - if you cut them, rather than pulling, it only encourages them more
