thats two different things, for people who don't have the time and dedication , they are an easy buy plug for filling spaces quickly, like lobelia, which i LOVE btw.
again as with perfect veg, are we been led to water and forced to drink because they are what GC's sell us?
where i live a good GC is at least 15 miles away, the frustration i feel at not being able to buy any other bedding plan than lobelia, impatiens, and pansies is immense, thus i have to grow mine from seed to get what i want, not everyone has the time for that.
did I explain that well enough?Vive Le Revolution!!!'Lets just stick it in, and see what happens?'Cigarette FREE since 07-01-09

To be honest with you the garden centres that I supply have such a wide client base that I haven't a clue who my target market is? You would be surprised who we see cramming their boot full with plants.
I have to agree with you on choice though, the main reason impatiens sell so many is that it is so easy to get them to flower in a pack, so will be showing colour at the time of sale. Yet as far as i'm concerned my favourite summer bedding plants are the rudbeckia, if you can get the 'Autumn Colours' variety it's simply stunning from end july onwards.

well I like my little Impatiens (white only, I'm fascist about colour) ... they fill a basket nicely with spider plant and white geraniums, and last for months. They are still flowering now.All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.
