  • Acer trouble

We have an Acer that we moved this spring from a pot into the ground. It is a variety with purple leaves, that turn bright red in autumn. This autumn, however, the leaves did not turn bright red, they just went brown around the edges and dropped off. The brown edges went from the bottom of the tree to the top leaves.

I thought they tended to transplant well, but am concerned about it.

How can I remedy the situation?

    Are you watering it???

I have some back home..the South facing ones don't do as well as the North facing ones...they like quite a bit of water.....could this be the problem???
I wouldn't worry about th brown leaves now...but if you water well over winter they should be fine come the Spring!

I think you have to wait until next year and see what happens Bluemchen. Yes, the Acers do colour wonderfully well, but autumn colour is mostly weather dependent. Bright days and cold nights produce the best colour. A spell of mild wet weather and the leaves just fall off. If that's the case it won't affect next years perforfamce.

I have had exactly the same problem with mine. Its in its first year in a pot. We did go on holiday tho' and it got forgotton by dippy house sitter, so was deprived of water for 16 days back in Sept. I did lavish lots of love on it once we got home. Its bare now and I'm crossing my fingers its gonna be ok next year.
