      Is it not Portuguese laurel? The leaf shape and flower shape certainly look right.
      If it is, the flowers will be following by cherry-like fruit, which eventually ripen to black (the fruit are poisonous, so don't eat them. Indeed, the whole plant is full of cyanide).

        i think amens is right. Portuguese laurel.
        its the boundary hedging in my daughter’s new garden - so will warn her about the toxicity .
