Are they really hardy in most of UK?

There are big full page ads in the Saturday Telegraph.

I have tried growing them from seed twice this season. The first batch in the propagator gave me one plant. The second batch gave me two plants. This is from a total of 30 seeds so 10% germination. Not happy.

I intend growing the few that have germinated in the greenhouse in large pots.

Like Snadger I've had very poor germination from seed. I'm growing as house plants so luckily I don't need many.

However a few years ago I grew a few from seed, and they survived in my stony and sunny front garden for a few years. Gone after a very cold winter, but reasonably hardy.

You might be ok in Croydon.
