I live in a part of the UK with very mild winters. Please take this into account before thinking "if he is sowing those now...."

I have got a Japanese quince that is flowering now.
I doubt the fruit will stay on.

Looks like P subhirtella autumnalis. I had one in the garden of my first house, it flowered on and off all winter whenever it wasn't frosty. Thanks for the reminder, I think I might get one for my new garden.
My gardening blog: In Spades, last update 30th April 2018.

Thanks for that. The plastic nursery label has faded completely. I ask Father Christmas every year for a set of metal letter stamps and a sheet of copper but no joy yet.

My winter cherry has flowers on it too. I had it in my last garden, where it flowered all winter in mild spells - so lovely in the middle of winter. Worth a space in every garden.
Mostly flowers, some fruit and veg, at the seaside in Edinburgh.
