  • Dead Verbascum Thapsus

Well, I can't even keep this seemingly low maintenance plant alive as the leaves have been looking sickly for a little while and the whole top has completely lifted off. There seems to be a fibrous root in the soil (it was in a tin in dry sandy soil) but absolutely no idea why it has keeled over. I have even seen it growing in the middle of a duel carriageway with very little or no soil for goodness sake.

I’m guessing the crown got too wet….rain and not enough breeze/wind to help evaporate any sogginess.

I have this plant in my garden ( growing through a rosemary bush) south facing/ exposed to SW winds.

I’m really starting to realise that a breeze/ wind really makes a difference to growing conditions. Even indoors with seedlings.

That looks like the sort of evil thing vine weevils might do.
They are common enough in the wild round here and are happy in clay soil.

It did have what looks like bite marks under the stem. Should it come back if potted on ?
