  • Non flowering Angel Wings

Well, another brand new plant going downhill in just a few weeks. This was a gift from a neighbour but it has never flowered, the stems are rotting and it has mottled marks on the leaves. It is in a terracotta pot, not under or over watered. Basically it's another doomed plant that crosses the threshold of my garden for absolutely no reason.

My angel wings was prolific in the front garden last year then got badly hit with the really cold winter temps. I thought it had died but has recovered a little. The leaves are still similar to yours though with lots of green as well as the silver. To sure why.

Mine is brand new but like anything bought that crosses the threshold of my property, it goes downhill.

It looks like there is a lot of slug damage to those leaves. I can see a slug on the first picture which looks like it’s grazing off the white layer.( top left leaf)
Did you pot the plants on or were they given to you in that pot?

I potted them on with the same soil they were planted. The slugs won't leave them alone but thats another issue. Why don't they flower ?

Each plant grows to 45cm all around,is there two plants in that pot,you can split them making sure they both have roots, have a pot each. I read they rarely flower & this plant is all about the foliage, can they go on a table or somewhere away from the slugs?

I have tried that but still they are in decline. The stems look like they are partly rotting and they are in a terracotta pot in compost on a gravel floor so they are not getting waterlogged.

Well, another brand new plant that crosses the threshold of my garden and ends up like this. Absolutely gutted as I have done everything correct to keep it going while overwintering in the greenhouse. I am just hoping the stem produces more leaves in Spring

And why does site request "Please upload at least one photo" when I have clearly uploaded the photo and can see it before I post ?

                        Hi Marb67,

Slugs and snails will definitely scrape off the silver and turn the leaves green as Nico mentioned.

They like a dry, sunny, sheltered spot - could it be that they've got chilled/frosted?

They're a bit like pelargoniums in terms of whether they'll survive for you outside all year or if they'll need an unheated greenhouse/porch overwinter.

Well again the end result is death. Why oh why does this keep happening with any new plant? Going to pot this in new Compost in the hope it still may sprout. Click image for larger version

                            Hi Marb67,

I'm not sure I'd hold out much hope for that one but gardening's all about the optimism. It looks to me like it's got too cold for its liking.

It has only been in the cold greenhouse with fleece over it. This is really embarrassing as it was a gift from my neighbours for watering their plants while away last summer. What am I going to say if they ask about it ?
