I have the little black beetles. If you have a garden shed ,( I'm lucky enough to have an outhouse )put them in a bucket of water, and if there is a source of light and they are in gloom then the beetles migrate towards the light. An open door will do. Et voila! Beetle free sweet peas, I also use this for roses.

I tried jogging, but I couldn't keep the ice in my glass.

I've always been fine with sweetpeas just sticking them in the ground! I occasionally start off inside, but have never had any problems treating them mean! I've got quite a collection of different varieties - Miss Wilmot I think was very pretty a couple of years ago, sort of pale peach colour and lovely scent.

I'm on the look out for new ones this year - although some of last year's (which Lazy-Lou here didn't bother to take out) are still growing very strongly along with some poppies which never made it to flowering last last!

I've always bought the seeds from T&M - all fine but I personally wouldn't bother with the hanging basket variety. I've tried them twice and gorgeous idea but a bit of a waste of time!

Um... I had the opposite problem - I grew Miss Willimott sweet peas - beautiful pink/purple colours and smelt fantastic. However, they COMPLETELY SWAMPED my runner beans!!!

I started them off in chinese takeaway tubs with potting compost on the window ledge, and 90% of them came up. I think I soaked them overnight before I planted them, but they had no other special treatment.

Fragrantissima is one of the nicest smelling varieties I have come accross, naturally!
