Make sure you stake it, mine fell over yesterday with 4 massive blooms on and about 3 feet high and 3 of them fell off

Flower stalk 17cm to base of flower bud today I am sure if I had time to stand there, I would see it growing.

*wonders how to stake a flower stalk which is growing in water looks like time to put another hook in the ceiling

Well, my lovely gift is now flowering - the first 'head' opened yesterday. Slightly surprised as it is rather different to the pictures I googled of Apple Blossom Google Image Result for http://www.scenicnc.com/sitebuilder/images/Apple_Blossom_Amaryllis-343x430.jpg but rather looks more like the Ackermanii shown to the right of the Apple Blossom

from bulb to flower in 8 weeks, that's just right.
I've just brought mine in (the one that flowered last winter and I planted in the garden for the summer).
I'm just about to chop its leaves off and pop it in the fridge for 6 weeks to chill.
Then it'll be onto a warm windowsill to hopefully flower mid-Feb.

I have ad an amarylis for years. It flowered well the first few years but after that nothing for many years, then one year it flowered again then nothing again since.
I just treat it as a leafy houseplant nowadays. Watered with the rest of them. If it ever does flower again I will be stunned.

We had an 'ever green' free T&M amaryllis that has flowered. What is the best way to care for it now, so that it flowers again. Do I cut the dead stalk off?
