Gardenwitch, when I plant seeds I make sure the compost is just damp, not soaking wet, then I put the tray of seeds in a poly bag and clip the bag closed. That stops the compost from drying out and I don't need to water the seeds.
Once the seeds have germinated they come out of the bag. If they need watered after that then do it by standing the tray in shallow water for a few minutes.

What were your marigolds like when you transplanted them? Did they just have their seed leaves ? If so you transplanted too soon. Their roots would not be properly formed. Wait until your plants have at least 1 set of true leaves before transplanting to give them time to develop roots.

Your unheated greenhouse won't be 20 at night so I would keep the plants in the house for a while. Good luck.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

**Ok I will try and bag them then or cover them, the dirt isnt soaking wet, but moist enough.

**sadly yes I transplanted to soon, it was their seed leaves they had and then i realized when they all started dying straight away they werent old enough yet. So wait until the seed leaves then the next set of leaves appear then transplant, got it
