  • Potting on pinks

I am having my first try at growing flowers from seed and I have lots and lots of pinks seedlings. Instructions say to pot on but do I need an individual pot for each seedling or can I put them a few seedlings to a module?

I grew pinks from seed several years ago and I did use a single pot for each. They'll need individual pots eventually and they'll grow on much more strongly if you can manage it. It's a fantastic thing to do - you get such brilliant colours and of course, the scent is gorgeous.

That's going to take me ages! The little kit (from Lidl) said it had 60 seeds but I am sure there are hundreds of seedlings Possibly a job for when the vine is down then Should I wait till they have true leaves before I do them? They look like they need to be out of the tray they are in though.

I grew Perpetual Carnations from seed but did have to wait until there second year before they flowered! Worth waiting for though!

You probably already know this but I get a bunch of carnations from the supermarket and take cuttings, root in hormone powder and away you go, lots of little flowering plants for anything from £1.49 to £2.99, get loads of them each year!

No scent though That's why I grow mine from Pipings from Named Varieties) If any of you are in Harrogate for the Spring show and go to the BNCS stand I'm sure they'll have some for sale at very reasonable prices .. who knows you might even see me

Yes, always pot on seedlings when the true leaves appear and they are large enough to handle (without breaking).

If you don't need all of them, I would just pot up the strongest ones and compost the rest.
