Sown mine a few weeks ago in the cardboard tubing that I saved from christmas wrapping paper. Once germinated moved into unheated greenhouse, they are about 2 1/2 inches tall. Will pinch out once they have 4 sets of leaves.

Last year I soaked the seed, it does speed up germination but doesn't make alot of difference. This year I just watered with hot water once they were sown and the germination time was the same as last year.

I sowed the first 24 sweet pea seeds in loo rolls back in the Autumn and left them in an unheated polytunel. 20 came through and I pinched them out just after the first two true leaves. I sowed another 24 at the end of January and they are almost the same height but a little more spindley. I sowed another 24 in loo rolls again a week ago and am waiting for them to pop up.

This is my third year of growing sweet peas and so far I have been impressed with the fruits of my minimum labour. I've had more bunches of sweet peas than I, my family, friends and neighbours have vases, glasses or jugs for!

Just make sure that you plant them out in well fertilised soil in a sunny position and tie them in regularly. As long as you pick each stem before they set seed, your sweet peas should give you months of pleasure!

Right - All of mine were sown two weeks ago and still nothing! they're outside so I think I'll bring them in and see what happens...

          Never grown them before
Serene she stand amid the flowers,
And only count lifes sunny hours,
For her dull days do not exist,

i have just had to plant mine outside under large plastic bottles. I planted them in loo rolls about two weeks ago and there roots had come right out of the bottom and were travelling around the seed tray. Hopefully they wont die outside. next year i wont start them so early
