Germinating marigolds?

I sowed some marigolds today and they are currently in the unheated greenhouse.
Now Im indoors and Ive googled and got conflicting opinions. Some say GH is fine others say start on windowsills another one said they need at least 20 degrees to germinate!

So do I leave em in the gh to germinate or bring them indoors? Help please, Im feeling confused and bewildered as usual

I would say it is far too early to sow in your greenhouse.

Bring them inside

i left mine outside and after 200 miles and 8 days i have 20 seedlings out of 40 so far!

As MrsC said it depends on the variety. Pot marigolds (calendula) germinate quite easily from a direct sowing, but french marigolds need some warmth. Sow French marigolds indoors from Feb to April, (15 to 20 degrees), harden off and plant out after the danger of frost has gone.
Pot Marigolds sow outside from March, they are a hardy annual.

I love em they are so easy. Ive got some called "Hunky Dory" for this year, really bright colours lets just hope the weather will be too!

Thanks all, these are French Marigolds (Naughty Marietta apparently) So I will bring them indoors and cram them onto a window sill

I had them last year, the slugs loved them!!!

What I find about marigolds (so easy) and other hardy annuals is that although the plants are hardy, the young seedlings are not. The seeds will germinate and the seedlings might be fine in an unheated greenhouse, but given a cold snap the losses in the seedlings will be horrendous and the rest so checked they never grow on.
I leave them a bit later.

That is indeed them. Hopefully if the slugs love em they will leave my veg alone!
