Sorry hope you don't mind me jumping in on this thread rather than starting a new one.
Some of my annual flower packets say sow direct. Do I have to do this or can they be sown in modules as well?

Can I sow now calendula seeds in the pot outside then?It would save me some space on the windowsills for the veg.

Give it a go, you can always cover the seedlings depending on the weather, they're pretty tough anyway.

Course you can sow in modules, give it a go, how many of those flower packets tell you to sow direct, yet you can buy them in pots from the garden centre?

Thank you for all the replies on this one.

I've done a bit of a mix and match - as I only have 1, 2 or 3 seedlings to a module, I've potted on each module (these are the 40 to a tray modules) into bigger modules (the 24 to a tray ones), and the trays are in the mini greenhouse.

Although it has been mild in the evenings for the last week or so, we're forcast just 2 degrees on Sat night so the cover will be coming down then to give them some extra protection, and I would hope to plant them out at the Hill at the front of the plot in about a months time.

I'll try to remember to pop a photo up tomorrow.
