Both my kids planted 2 each, just transplanted 1 of each into ground, Covered with bottle cloche to keep the slugs away, and 1 of each into large buckets to see which does better where etc..... the kids have competition with each other as to who's gets biggest.
I can't believe that I planted in small pots, some red sunflowers, only on Friday....and a shoot has appeared already! Sitting on a south facing windowsill! Looks like we'll all have sunflowers smiling at us this year!! Lovely!

world war 3 gonna break out after school today!!! just been out to check on kids sunflowers and 1 of my sons has been attacked ( by slugs i'm guessing ) it was covered with bottle cloche but looks like the little blighter slimed its way underneath it.
uh oh, was it badly eaten? I have a few russian giants going under fleece and the poor edge ones are getting a terrible battering. i'm just hoping that it can grow faster than the slugs can eat!
Mine are still in the window sill looking great. When should I transplant to bigger pots? Is it generally when you've got 4 true leaves? How big before they go outside?
You lot have made my mind up - I've just bought sunflower seeds. I haven't had a garden for years and years, and got an allotment last week. Got just the spot for sunflowers. I can't wait cos I love them.
I sowed 20 Mezzulah F1 & 10 Little Leo Sunflowers last Sunday and 23 of them came through the compost on Thursday morning Now only waiting on the last four to germinate.
