I love gladiolis for cutting and also cosmos.
Serene she stand amid the flowers,
And only count lifes sunny hours,
For her dull days do not exist,
    Evermore the optimist

Thankyou very much everyone, after a good deal of discussion we have gone for these 2.

Lavatera Collection (Tree Mallow) - J Parker Dutch Bulbs

We have also decided I will completely remake the front garden, so lots more work in the pipeline

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

One of my favourites is alstroemeria - it grows from a rhizome, and it sends out new shoots all the time so any tatty ones can be cut off. The cut flowers are great, and last ages in a vase. Florists use them frequently.

You can get various heighted ones, depending on the cultivar.

Are the ones you were describing Rudbeckia (Black Eye Susan)? I have some seed which I haven't sowed yet.
