perrenial flowers for a shady area?

Hi All

What perrenial flowers and plants are there for a very shaded area, it only gets direct sunlight for about 2 hours each day.

Ok - I don't know these things really, but I have a book and I've been looking for my own shady border.

I already have Lady's Mantle, Japanese Anemone, Bergenia, Omphalodes and ferns doing well, waiting to see if the Ligularia has survived the winter.
I've been trying to grow Physalis from seed and I want a Brunnera (pernnial forget-me-not).

Also I'm guessing for that much shade think woodland type plants? Hopefully someone will come and give us both some more ideas!

I've got a Lysimachia out my front garden (north facing) and it grows fine! I *think* its a Lysimachia Yellow Loosestrife, its grows into a big clumps quite quick. You can get a variegated leaf one as well, but doubt it will do well in the shade.

Also don't know if its any help, but I'm sure they said on gardeners world, darker the leaves the better it does in shade, and the more blue the leaves the better it does on the coast

Oh brunnera is a real favourite of mine. I have the plain leafed one and a few months back I got one called Jack Frost with silver edges to the leaves. It's such a pretty thing - also called perennial forget-me-not.

Fatsia japonica, maybe dicentra, primroses, lily-of-the-valley, doronicum, hellebore, and as already mentioned, ferns (lots of different kinds)

If it is a dry shady area then the following are good to try

Astrantia
Camellia
Helleborus
Hosta (but beware slugs)
Rhododendron
Viburnum Davidu

If it is a we shady area then try

Anemone japonica
Aucuba japonica
Bergenia
Euphorbia
Ilex
Skimmia
Vinca

If you want a taller plant you could try a Japanese maple (purple leafed variety) as these grow very well in shade.
