Peat based compost in containers

I've built myself some nice windowboxes and planted them all up last night along with 4 hanging baskets. After I stood back to admire my work I realised that my big bag of compost is peat based.

Will I get away with it if I feed them/keep on top of the watering or do I really need to empty everthing out and go for a peat free compost?

This is my first year in the world of flowers.

Well you've bought the peat based compost now so you may as well use it. Your post implies that you think peat based composts are inferior to peat free, in general it's the reverse.

The labels/planting instructions in the plants I bought said to use Peat Free so I thought I'd messed up.

I use peat free in my hanging baskets to and its the business. Peat based
compost does seem to dry out so so quickly in my experience. Especially
in hanging baskets. It drives me potty!
