sunflowers

I planted a tray of giant sunflowers just over a week ago, they are about 5 inch high now, a couple have gone a bit wonky over to one side, grown along a hit and then grown upwards a bit as the light was stronger from the growlights to one side of them
Im just repotting them, is it safe to repot them burying the stem a bit ( inch or so) to stand them up a bit more, or will the stem rot if i do?

You could try staking it, use a twig or a bamboo cane

Thats what i have done for now, but i thought i shouldnt need to at that size, ive used some bamboo skewers for now, most of them are fine just a couple of each tray sort of grown sidewards looking for light ( there under 1000w of growlights so they shouldnt be heading for the window!), both the giant sunflowers (not sure of type but it said 6m size) and the red velvet have both done it

You could try planting them abit deeper, if the rest is fine then you aint really got much to lose

Mine are in a cold greenhouse now but would probably be ok to go outside soon!
Can't understand why growlights are being used with sunflowers?

Mine are also in an unheated greenhouse, just hanging on to them for a bit longer before planting out cos I think the slugs might have their eye on them

I have a couple of rooms with growlights mainly for the citrus trees but i also have so many plants in here most fruiting all winter, strawberrys, peppers, chillies and a lot now in hydroponics and aeroponic cloners using the same lights

i have nowhere safe outside (from the dogs) for small plants till i put a greenhouse up, so i do most seeds inside here the growlights can be handy, the main problem is keeping it cool enough for some plants as the citrus like it hot

For sunflowers over-warm conditions probaly make the seedlings grow too fast causing them to bend towards the light or grow leggy.

we're about to plant sunflowers, so i think the unheated greenhouse is sounding good to me seeing as it is a bit more mild now

i put the stronger ones in big pots today and put them outside in the sun, they seem better now, the others i put in 4 inch pots and earthed them up a bit, they seem straighter now there outside

I planted some of my pastiche sunflowers out a couple of days ago under my kitchen window. I seem to have a little micro climate there, so I think they should be safe.
I have also planted some giants, and mine are in the conservatory...they're a bit bent too, so maybe I'll plant them a bit deeper too...take a chance.

MIne have been outside since saturday, they are nice and straight and the real leaves are growing bigger, they look fine now
