I have one of these plants in my garden but not sure how to look after it. At the moment it is flowering. Does it need pruning or cutting back at some point and should I cut down the flower stems after flowering?

I don't think you need to do anything to it, except remove any leaves that start to look scruffy. They prefer moist, well-drained soil, and you can divide them every three or four years. Mine gets chomped by slugs and snails rather a lot.

Thanks Sweepster. For some reason mine has been affected by slugs much, despite having loads in the garden! When I divide it do I literally just dig it up and split it with a spade?

They must've found something tastier to eat
It says in my book: 'root young rhizome sections with one or more leaf rosettes after flowering or in autumn in open ground'. Which will make sense once you've dug it up and can see it, I guess. I like dividing things: free plants!

Yeah probably my veg I think I know what that means. I've just had a go with some delphiniums which look like they might have taken so I assume its the same sort of thing. Always in favour of free plants
