Lavender Hidcote v Munstead

I always wanted to have lavender-decided to go for Hidcote.I don't know why but most of the plant suppliers seem to prefer Munstead to Hidcote.I tried to grow it from seed couple of years ago-seeds have germinated,grew a bit and then died.I was given a few cuttings but never managed to root them.Anyway,I got some Hidcote plug plants from ebay-plants propagated from cuttings.What I'd like to know is what's the difference between Hidcote and Munstead-I've done quite a lot of research on both and they seem to be similar.
Any suggestions as how to grow it are welcome.I know they prefer sandy soil(that's what I have here).My mistake with cuttings was I put it into ordinary compost.I also know I should give it a trim after flowering (to keep it compact and bushy)and avoid cutting into old wood.
I'll have to put them into pots first so should I mix compost with some sharp sand or use the soil from the garden?

Sandy soil would be fine. Add some fine gravel/grit if you want. You just want something well drained.

They'll probably do better in pots anyway as they'll keep dry then and avoid any water logging. I intend to keep mine in pots permanently (I'm short of planting room anyway)

Indoors you can control the watering. Don't let the soil get soggy and give them bright light (south facing window). I've got a selection of lavenders indoors I've over wintered. Some of the fancier ones have been flowering for weeks.

Most are going out soon and some are staying indoors.

I think munstead might be smaller, but a quick google should give you info about both.

I want a lavender hedge but don't know which would be best, Munstead or Hidcote. I know Hidcote is a paler blue, but how do they compare height-wise, scent-wise, and ease of looking after? I don't want a hedge that will grow woody and die off after a few years. Which tolerates pruning best?

I've had a look round on Google to try and make comparisons, but still can't get a clear picture. Can someone tell me simply which is best?
