Can I put them out yet or should I just cool my heels for another couple of weeks?

Have you hardened them off, if yes and you have a spare bit of fleece then you may be okay, when is your last frosts usually early May. -
From reading older threads on here, I gather sweet peas are hardy, so as long as they've been hardened off they'll be fine outside.Comment

They are hardy - they can be sown in Spetember and go out over winter! Do harden them off though. Sudden shocks do more harm than anything else.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

I would hold on a few weeks more up there Amanda. When we were there we had frost in June one year and I lost the lot - about 80 plants. I used to grow them everywhere as they are so gorgeous, up trees & ugly fencing.

Frost won't kill them, unless they're put out without being hardened off properly - put them out in the day and in at night, for a week or so, then leave them out overnight with a bit of protection (fleece or a bit of polythene) for a couple of days. Should be safe enough to plant them then

As previous posts, hardened them off, they'll do fine, might sulk for a few days, but mine have been out about 3/4 weeks, around 1' tall and climbing

My ones are lazy-they were planted outside a few weeks ago and slowly starting to come up.Comment

I didn't really harden mine off...just moved them from a unheated greenhouse outside and then into the ground. 80% of them are doing okay - a couple of them have gone a bit yellow and stunted but the rest are going great guns!

yes - mine are lazy too. I planted them out when they were about 2 inches tall 3 weeks ago and they haven't really gone anywhere since!Comment
