  • Ranunculus Problem

Been for a quick recce around the gardens, didn't get out yesterday because of cat antics.

Out the front (west facing) we have a trough with a climbing rose in it (mag offer freebie, think it's dead) and sweetpeas, racing away doing fine. The other things I've planted to grow at the bottom of the sweetpeas are ranunculus.

These have been doing well since I planted them out two weeks ago (they were reduced at Homebase, but looked healthy enough) Today though, I've noticed that the leaves are yellow and withered, the flowers are dead and when I lifted one there were hardly any roots at all.

No sign of creepy crawlies, so this must be something I have or haven't done. Any ideas?

Have you had a poke around in the compost? When I went to remove some plants from a small trough last year, I lifted them and they just came away from the soil - virtually no roots left. I emptied out the container and found lots of little 'things' which I THINK were vine weevil larvae.
