  • Wallflowers to go?

    Now my wall flowers have finished do I pull them out and replant next year with fresh?

      I would say yes........but not in the same place! Wallflowers are a brassica and need to be rotated onto a fresh limed patch each year.

        I have grown wallflowers in the same flowerbed for 25 years with no problems...

              No. No. No.
              Do NOT discard your wallflower plants.
              Cut off the seeding flower heads and leave them be.
              They will give you top banana flowers again next year.

                  Mine are starting to look tatty, but I am saving them for seed.
                  I will soon plant sunflowers in their place, that have been waiting in the wings for a fortnight (everything is behind).

                    Mine are in their 2nd year flowering nicely still, seeing as they are normally treated as biennials, so will be taking cuttings very shortly.

                      As a well known tatty gardener - I leave them. I've had wallflowers, originals and self seeded, in amongst my front border for 7 years. I just love the scent. (and I can think of other things to do with the time!)
