  • 'Mixed' seed issue.

It has happened again. I buy a packet of seed promissing a mixture of a particular plant and they all come out the same. Over the past few years this has happened with convolvulus, ornamental gourds, chillis and now nasturtiums.

While I don't necessarily expect the results to be as good as the picture on the packet I do expect some variation in a 'mixed' packet.

Have I been unlucky or is this a common occurence?

It could be that the weaker seedlings are eaten by slugs, or that conditions don't suit them, or the stronger seedlings out-compete them for food and water and light.

    Any manner of things.

Start them off in modules and then plant out, it's what I have ended up doing.

Last year I got some campanula seeds.Yes,it was mix.Nobody mentioned that one of campanulas was VERY invasive.I'm very lucky that after seeing lots of "runner" roots decided to keep it in the bucket to "see how it's going".

Was that the purple one that is seen in lots of garden? I got a mixed pack but I am wondering what I will get from them - tiny ATM !
