moving/storing snowdrop bulbs

Hello all,

Wondering if someone could help me. I am moving house in a few months, not exactly sure of when but it should be before next spring and I want to bring my snowdrops with me. As I am not sure how long it'll be before they get put into my new garden. I know the best time to move them is in the green, but it would be now that I want to move them into pots? Will I just move them into pots and leave them out so that rain etc can get them or do I leave them in storgae or would they dry out an kill them. Any tips would be great. I LOVE my snowdrops and would hate to lose them. Do they do ok in containers. I could put them in my mothers garden, but would moving them and moving them again, upset them.

Hello Sherpa and welcome. I had to move all my snowdrops and other bulbs a few years ago and put them in pots. Stupidly I didn't label each pot so had to wait until it all came up again to know what was what and where I was going to put them.

Thanks frias, did you juts put them in pots with fresh compst and leave them with other container plants? and that was that? I am a little the same with not knowing what bulbs are what as I have crocuses too and they seem to have similar bulbs? My snowdrops don't seem to be in clumps though are they only in clumps when they are 'in the green'?

I dug them up with the garden soil they were in and put them in pots. Once they flower next year you'll know what they are. Snowdrop bulbs are small and whitish. Sort of oval (a bit hard to explain) Crocus bulbs are darker and more squat shaped. Hopefully someone on here will explain it better!

I think I've been digging up the crocuses so, there are so many bulbs in my garden. It was owned by an old woman before me so throughout the year different things spring up , I wanted to take some of all of them before I leave as they are going to be getting rid of the garden, it would be such a shame to loose them all.
