No matter what I try I cannot get my orchids to flower a second year.

    Any ideas please

What type of orchid are they? Warm, intermediate or cold? In my experience the key to triggering flowering is the right temperature fluctuation. Warm centrally heated houses don't always get cold enough. During the summer months, unheated greenhouses (with good shading and plenty of water) and good places to keep them. More help available if you know the variety.

      Hi Anita,

I'd always had this problem before too, but recently moved house and it's made such a difference now that we have windowsills!

I have phalaenopsis and it's the first time ever that its shot up secondary flowering spikes apart from the ones that came with it when I bought it. The only thing I'm doing differently is that I have it on a West facing windowsill, so plenty of evening light - not too hot. I also feed it Baby Bio orchid food every week, only watering once a week, less in winter.

      Hope that helps.
