Grow as usual. Take off the side shoots and stake the lead shoot up so it will grow straight and strong. When its as tall as you want it to grow pinch out the top.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

best shoots for standards have three or even 4 leaves instead of the more common 2 opposites . when these are rooted , it is essential not to damage the growing tip.
allow the cutting to growon tying in the stem gently , and loosely to a straight cane . keep the cutting straight. remove any flower buds as soon as you can . leave side shoots on whilst the cutting is still small as it will help bulk up the main stem, but stop them after a couple of leaf pairs .when the main stem is about pencil thickness these side shoots can be removed with a sharp knife . when the cutting has reached the desired height , pich out the growing tip and alow the head to form , treat this as you would a bush plant and by next year you should have a perfectly good standard fuschia .
It will need protection over the winter and needs to be kept growing for this first season . out of interest what variety are you growing ?there are only 10 types of people, those who understand binary , and those who don't!!
