I always thought that once the spots appeared on the leaves the fungus was actually into the tissue? If they were just on the surface a soap solution would take them off surely!
I think the fungisides sprayed on them only controls, not cures, the fungus and stops it spreading it's spores. If what you have read works it must have fungisidal properties and do the same thing!

That sounds as though its definitely worth a try. Had black spot on my roses this year, and the spray I bought to treat it didn't have much of an effect. I'll try pretty much anything to prevent bald rose bushes next year.

Snadger, I think that 'rubbing alcohol' is another name for surgical spirit
If anyone has an old tin of ***** Fluid there is a treatment for Black spot on the side. Another thought is that an infusion of Horsetail is supposed to act as a fungacide. Does anyone know anything about this? I would be very interestedGardening requires a lot of water - most of it in the form of perspiration. Lou Erickson, critic and poet

Rhubarb leaves put in the planting hole for brassicas are supposed to help against clubroot which is a soil borne fungus. Also used as a general garden insecticide by some after being boiled up! Naughty, naughty tho as EEC rules say we can't do it now!My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

Doesn't matter that rhubarb is natural Shortie, it's like lots of herbal remedies also which you can no longer buy because of the same rules-if it hasn't been tested & approved for that particular use you can't officially use it!Into every life a little rain must fall.
