Flowers for shade?

Hello experienced gardeners

I have a bit of a garden that's next to a brick wall and it's North facing, with a diagonal bit that's NW facing. It's a short garden at the back of a town house, so gets the noon sun at mid summer, but pretty much no sunshine on the border itself until late afternoon, and only then for an hour or so. Taller plants will get a bit more sun as it peeps past the corner of the house.

Can anyone recommend perennial flowers for cutting to grow here? I read most of the labels on flowers say full sun or partial shade. Is the classed as partial shade because it gets an hour of sun, or is so little that it's classed as full shade?

I've got a similar border in my back garden, inherited when I moved into the cottage around 5 years ago. I've added bulbs but there were already the following and they do well there. Shrubs - euonymus (green/white variegated) grows up against the wall, Kerria, philadephus. Japanese anemones do fantastically well there, spring bulbs, primroses and polyanthus.

this year I've had success with sweetpeas, Jap anemone, myosotis, foxglove and pansies in my north facing shady border (sun from dawn till about 10am only).

I had this problem at the side of our garage. When looking at 'shade', I found there is shade as in partial-only gets a short spell of sun, dappled shade-as under a tree,lightly shaded-no direct sun but gets lots of light, deep shade-as in forest like.
Very confusing at the time but helped me to realise what I had. I bought shrubs for this area and they have grown really well, also I planted fuschia cuttings here and they took better here than anywhere else in the garden.
I think its a case of trial and error but fun at the same time. I'd be inclined to try plants that want partial shade unless its very light area then have a go at plants that want full sun and see what happens. Good luck.
