  • Window boxes

    Hi everyone!

Well, my window boxes have died a death. I think it's my fault, but what do I do now? I see winter bedding appearing in the garden centre but is that too hasty? I don't really want to remove the box completely so please could somebody tell me what to do? It has the dregs of some lobelia, snapdragons and dwarf sweet peas in.

    Thanks for reading!

Has anybody got any experience of these new trailing pansies? (Frionella or something ) They look bright and are supposed to flower over winter - and are scented. They might be nice for a window box.

How about some edible stuff - maybe not throughout winter, but some quick growing items might work. Don't really know what - I had to ask about a window box for my daughter recently. That is for her windowledge, not to put my daughter in...

I sowed wildflower seeds in one in the spring. Loads came up and seem to manage well with so many plants in a small space.

It's worked pretty well so far, but not sure what will happen over winter.

How about some spring bulbs, with either winter pansies or cyclamen or evergreen leafy-type things (heuchera, ferns?) to keep it going til they come up? Sarcococca humilis (Christmas Box) is good too; evergreen and scented winter flowers.
