  • Carnations in bloom.......

Just thought I had to tell someone that my carnations are in full bloom in my cold greenhouse!

    Is this normal for Cristmas?

Deffo going to have some more next year but hopefully I should be able to get them to flower over a long period!

To give you an idea of how cold it is in there, every Saturday buy a pint of milk to have with my coffee This week I fogot to buy it, but used last Saurdays milk which was still as fresh as a daisy!

They will flower in a cold house Snadger, what sort are they ? If they are a perennial variety you can keep them going in pots (9" would be good) and later on take cuttings (pipings) like you would for Pinks.

If you have the room you can plant them up in a bed & fasten some of the pea/bean netting horizontally in the green house & let them grow thru that for support. You can do the same with your Dahlia's & Spray Chrysanths as well.

Well done on your carnations Snadger. We've had no really cold weather here at all and I've still got roses and fuchsias flowereing outdoors. If I have time tomorrow (bit doubtful) I will take some pics and post them.
As for the milk, well, I don't know what they put in those cartons - but it aint milk.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Tend to agree about the milk Alice! My fondest memories from yesteryear are when we used to go tatey picking and the farmer used to supply the tea.

He used to transport about 10 gallon of hot milky tea in the back of his landrover in a large aluminium vat. He would plonk it down in the field and we all used to just dip our tin mugs in it. It was made with milk straight from the cows teat and it was the best tea I have ever tasted!!!!!
