  • Phormium Tenax - needs moving/eradicating...

I stupidly put two of these monsters in the ground at opposite ends of the garden. They're taking over and I want them out. Any suggestions as to how I do this in the absence of access to Agent Orange and a mechanical digger?

I have a chainsaw, a strimmer and I am prepared to use a herbicide as the chooks aren't interested in eating it but I very much fear it has rooted back down under in NZ

you'll need to dig it out. Watering well the day before will make the task easier (perhaps you could Freecycle or eBay them? Get someone else to do the digging too)

I've seen them on freecycle for recipients to dig out themselves. Digging is the only way...they are not as deep rooted as some plants (errr, like trees!), I've battled a few before and it IS possible!

I moved one years ago and it hadn't been in the ground for more than a few months. I thought it would kill me

I don't think I could put up with Freecyclers having to spend a lot of time in my garden digging the perishing things out and having to track all the mess through the house.

I think it's a pickaxe and hard labour for me
