Vigorous climber needed

I need a vigorous climber the more it takes over the better, to grow along a fence and up into a hedge.
The area is shaded and because of the hedge can be quite dry.
Does anyone know of one?

There are different types of ivy which are faster than others- but don't go for the Russian Ivy!

Just looked up Russian vine but appratly it is not evergreen i need screening all year round.

An Ivy would certainly be your best bet for your situation. Some of the bicolours do quite well in the shade as well as the greens.

The common passionflower. I have grown it up and through a shaded leylandi.
The soil is dry as bone below the tree not to mention low in nutrients.
It does not phase the passionflower one bit! It is so happy that it has fruited
and seedlings pop up in the spring.
I admit I did give it a good start when planting but apart from watering it regularly every week for a couple of months I left it to it.

agree with shushkin! Ther passionflower would do well, also a Clematis? I plamted a Clematis Montana and I now have around 5m of hedge covered in lovely leaves (can't see the fence) and beautiful flowers twice a year (btw, 5m of growth was in 15 months, and with a lot of pruning).

Without wanting to sound censorious: if it's shady, a passion flower won't flower.
Ivy would be a good one. Get a pretty variety, it doesn't need to be a big old thug: it'll be cheap too, because cuttings are very easy to do

Sorry, I should have added that the passionflower is growing up a leylandii
in a gloomy area of my north facing front garden. I admit I was rather concerned
it would not flower but it surprised me. Tough as old boots but with such a beautiful flower. My only gripe might be that it fruits like anything and and I have pick up
the fruits when they eventually fall before they turn to mush.
They do add some colour to as they look just like to apricots to me

I have just cut down 3 passion flowers as they were going too wild for my liking. 2 are still in the tubs & you are more than welcome to one. The main branch is about 1" diameter so would have to post it as bare root to keep the cost down. Try pming me if you are interested. I say "try" as I am having difficulty receiving them.
