  • Orchids have been attacked

Oh dear my collection of orchids nurtured since they were given as gifts have succumbed to white fly. One day they were fine the next time I looked they were poorly. I covered them with plastic carrier bags and sprayed in flying bug stuff and today gave them a bath and re potted them. Have I done wrong? Whatelse is there to do?

What you did would have been my approach too. I hope they recover.

How long have you had them btw? I have had several for years now and even managed to make daughter plants that also went on to flower by splitting off the pseudobulbs that form on one plant I have. Another plant is almost always in flower (it is now!). I have them on an east facing kitchen window sill.

The oldest is only about 4 years old. The others have been gifts since then. I have recently moved them to a NE direction (over a low radiator) maybe they didn't like it. Or to be more exact the fly did.

Try something like Provado it's a systemic jobby or failing that liquid derris that should sort the little beggars out and being indoors it's not quite as bad for other insects as there won't be too many.

our extensive collection ( 2 of them) got moved into the bathroom after we did it up earlier on in the year and they seem to have benefited from the humid atmosphere when we are all having showers and the the window being open to clear the fog as they are both coming into flower again.
