Tall flowers for a border??

Medium as for height-they aren't as tall as hollyhocks and delphiniums but they aren't low either.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Gladioli?

I grow gladioli in a south facing border and they seem to relish it! I have Cardoon flowers which are still there now, if a little brown and dried out. My foxgloves, especially the white ones , grow to about 8 foot and this year I'm trying Lupins which can be dug in as green manure if I so wish! Lavatera grow to 4 foot (I aslo have marshmallow which grows to 6 feet) and of course chrysanths and dahlias which grow to 4 foot as well.

I like a combination of ornamental alliums for the spring at the back of my borders, and then in the late summer these are overtaken by japanese anemone and echinacea. The alliums are quite lovely in late spring/early summer though and stunning to look at.

I used to like delphiniums in that place, except that every June for some reason we tend to get one strong windstorm which always breaks the stems, no matter how carefully I stake them out. That's why I switched to alliums instead. If you have a better location than I do, delphinium, lupins and foxgloves would be my choices, but the delphiniums didn't work out well for me because after the third year of strong winds, I gave up.
