Whilst out lopping back the trees/bushes at the side of the house I decided to 'plant' some of the cuttings I'd taken.
Background: Last year I used a cutting from some Elder to 'prop-up' one of my top heavy chilli plants. After a while I noticed some unusual growth in amongst the chilli foliage. On closer inspection I noticed that the Elder had actually started to produce leaves, so I quickly removed it and used something else to prop up the chilli plant.
So, I took the branches and larger 'twigs' from the Elder and the Ash that I had cut back and pushed them into the ground - which was very soft underfoot and felt quite 'mulchy' if that makes sense? The area in question is a wooded pathway that runs adjacent to the house, and some of the area is quite barren.
I'm hoping to 'thicken' it up a bit, hence the planting of cuttings - which I hope will take as the sheer amount of leaves that fall on the area (as is the way in wooded paths) should help the cuttings to root (or am I off?).
I thought to meself - could I buy some of those large potato sack type bags full of daffs and alike and plant them about (or something like Grape Hyacinth that would spread), or with all the squirrels around and the fact that the area is quite shaded would I be wasting my money/time?
